Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement

Introduction

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54, Part 6 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps and progress the Company is making to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place within our supply chain or in any part of our business.

Our business, structure & supply chains

We are Europe’s largest privately-owned manufacturer of chocolate hollow moulded products with an annual turnover of £80 million; we have one manufacturing facility with all supply chain, administrative & operations based at the above site.

Like many other highly seasonal businesses we rely on seasonal workers; over many years we have developed comprehensive recruitment procedures and continue to directly employ all employees.

We work with a small number of suppliers, principally involving services, including contract engineering, engineering parts & equipment, cleaning services. All other suppliers are directed by our customers.

Our customers have made significant progress in their global supply chains; however, we recognise our responsibility to ensure we stay abreast of their continued progress and improvement in their supply chains.

Policies and Process:

We are committed to ensuring that there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in our supply chains or in any part of our business strive to maintain the highest standards of conduct and ethical behaviour from our employees and our suppliers.

Policies:

We have a policy relating to modern slavery which we have communicated to our employees. This makes it clear the behaviour expected of our employees in respect of modern slavery.

Whistleblowing:

ETI principles, Health & Safety, Bribery & Corruption, dignity at work and how employees can confidentially report any concerns or issues continue to be effectively communicated through company inductions.

Due Diligence:

Suppliers must agree to our “Supplier Terms” which includes a Business Code of Conduct before they do business with us. This sets out our requirements that Suppliers provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity and respect, and act ethically and within the law in their use of labour

Monitoring:

We evaluate modern slavery and human trafficking risks for our suppliers and have identified those where there is a higher potential for modern slavery. The areas of enhanced risk are monitored by our buyer reporting to the Managing Director.

We know that to tackle modern slavery, and promote our core beliefs it is essential to monitor and improve our procedures on an on-going basis.

Training and Awareness:

We provide appropriate training to ensure employees understand the risks of modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and in our supply chains. Our employees understand their responsibility in reporting any concerns or suspicion or modern slavery.

As well as training staff, we will be raising awareness of modern slavery issues generally and reiterating to our staff the importance of our Supplier Business Code of Conduct.

This statement has been approved by the Board of Directors, who will review and update it annually

This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending April 2019.
